SUP for a Pup Event Benefits Animal Rescue
The Third Annual SUP for a Pup tomorrow in Newport Beach, Calif., will feature a large-scale sample sale of surf apparel, pet adoptions, raffles and food vendors.
Proceeds from the event, which is being held by Kaenon Polarized, will benefit the Orange County-based animal rescue, A Wish For Animals (AWFA). From the streets to high-kill shelters, AWFA provides temporary housing, food, medical treatment and lots of love to pups until they find their forever homes.
SUP for a Pup was founded in 2009 by Chris Wyman, the marketing director for Kaenon Polarized and an active dog and animal advocate. For the past few years, Wyman and his wife have been fostering homeless dogs through AWFA, which led to their belief that more could be done to raise money and awareness for the non-profit foundation. The recent economic downturn put added pressure on local shelters and charities, as the need to find homes for the growing population of disregarded and homeless dogs increased exponentially.
Wyman’s and AWFA’s vision of a orchestrating a dog charity event that would be in tune with the local surf culture came to life with SUP for a Pup. Those who attended the first event were treated to prize giveaways, great deals on sunglasses, surf apparel, accessories and gear, not to mention introductions to loving dogs looking for their forever homes. The event was a huge success, raising more than $7,000 for AWFA, but more importantly it joined 20 dogs with new, permanent loving families.
SUP for a Pup will be held on April 9 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m at Kaenon Polarized, 864 W. 16th St., Newport Beach, Calif.
