3 Posh Dog-Friendly Hotels in the US
With so many hotels opening their doors to our four-legged friends, one has to ask, where do pampered puppies prefer to stay?
Dogs of discerning taste have plenty of options when searching for posh pads to rest their weary paws.
From hotels that offer “4-paw” gourmet meals to Swarovski crystal-studded shirts, these doggie debutantes are spoiled rotten.
1. Trump International Hotel & Tower, 401 N. Wabash Ave., Chicago, Ill.
Pooches receive a daily continental breakfast for two, a $15 hotel credit and a special welcome amenity. The hotel will also make a special donation to the Goodnight Foundation on behalf of your buddy.
According to travelandleisure.com, the Trump Hotel’s welcome package for your pooch includes: a personal bed, gourmet treats and a water bowl (with bottled water to fill it). There’s also easy access to an outdoor dog park around the Trump Riverwalk and an in-room dining menu with special dog fare like a $32 meal of filet nips with steamed vegetables.
Rates: $395 and up for doubles
No dog fee
2. Mandarin Oriental, 500 Brickell Key Dr., Miami, Fla.
Pampered pets in Miami receive a plush pet bed, Miami-style food, water bowls and other special treats. For more private pooches, the hotel offers a selection of pet-friendly dishes recommended by its chefs from a selected menu that can be enjoyed in your room. “All items on the menu have protein, vitamins and minerals and do not contain any added sugar, artificial flavors or color,” according to the hotel’s website.
Travelandleisure.com boasts that dogs that stay at the Mandarin Oriental also get to choose between two doggie bootcamp options: “working out with a certified dog trainer—or a training session, which addresses problems like excessive barking or jumping.” From there your pampered pooch can unwind in a doggy bathrobe or Swarovski crystal–studded shirt. If you feel like unwinding on your own, the staff will walk your dog once a day for free and provide turndown service for your pooch’s private bed.
Rates from $269 and up for doubles
Dog Fee: $200 ($100 is refundable)
3. The Fairmont, 2401 M Street, NW, Washington, D.C.
High-class canines that pad their way into The Fairmont will be treated to all the amenities of the “It’s A Dog’s World Package.” The hotel website quips that pristine pooches will relish in the luxurious guest room; dog treats handmade by the hotel’s executive chef; a special pet “Do Not Disturb” sign for the door (the sign’s green paw means “Please service room, animal companion exploring city,” while the red paw means, “Do not disturb, animal”) and best of all, 5 percent of your room rate is donated to the Washington Animal Rescue League.
According to traveltips.usatoday.com, “The Fairmont’s Very Important Dog (VID) treatment includes healthy treats made by the executive pastry chef and dishes that use fresh, sustainable, locally grown ingredients.” The package also includes bottled water, a place mat and walking maps that show the nearby parks, pet-friendly cafes and stores.
