Top 5 Most Dog-Friendly Cities in the U.S.

dalmation dog suitcaseThe summer travel season is upon us and to help you and Fido map out that dog-friendly vacation, we are presenting the top five most dog-friendly cities in the U.S. Our selections are based on dog-friendly beaches, pet-friendly hotels, recreational areas and restaurants that allow your dog to hang out on the patio with you while you enjoy your meal.

5. New York, N.Y.

Big city, bright lights and four-legged stars pound the pavement in dog-friendly New York City. According to NYC.com, New York City is a great place for two-legged visitors to bring their dogs. Take a stroll through Central Park, hail a pet taxi and check in to one of more than 100 pet-friendly hotels. Regardless of which of the many dog-friendly places in the Big Apple you choose to visit, you and your dog will be glad you did.

4. San Diego, Calif.

Dogs and pet parents alike will love San Diego’s more than friendly attitude toward four-legged visitors. Every beach welcomes dogs, and some are even off-leash, such as Dog Beach in Ocean Beach, Fiesta Island in Mission Bay and North Beach Dog Run in Coronado. San Diego is also home to a wide variety of dog-friendly hotels and restaurants.

3. San Francisco, Calif.

Visitors bringing their dogs to San Francisco will be thrilled with all the dog-friendly parks, hotels and attractions the city has to offer. Take your dog to one of the off-leash beaches, or for a power walk across the Golden Gate Bridge. For those looking to play with their dogs, head over to Golden Gate Park, where you and your pooch can enjoy more than 1,000 acres of green space and four off-leash areas. When you have had enough, check in at one of many dog-friendly hotels including the Palomar and the Four Seasons.

2. Austin, Texas

In Austin, you and your dog can stop and smell the flowers – literally. Dogs are welcome at Zilker Botanical Gardens in the heart of Austin. When you’re done smelling the flowers, how about a nice jog through downtown on Austin’s dog-friendly jogging trail, which runs along the Colorado River? And if all that activity has you panting before you even start, just head out to any one of 12 off-leash dog parks and let your dog exercise himself while you soak up the sun. Or grab a bite at one of many dog-friendly restaurants throughout the city.
