Big Pines Mountain House
Escape to a wilderness getaway in South Lake Tahoe, Calif., at the Big Pines Mountain House.
Pet parents and their pooch pals can unwind beside crystal clear waters with waves that can blend into sapphire and emerald hues during the summer.
During the winter you can hit the slopes on snowmobiles or fulfill a childhood dream to go “dashing through the snow” on a homemade sleigh pulled by a 2,000-pound blonde Belgian Draft horse.
There is a $15 per night fee for your dog. Be sure to let the front desk know your dog is with you when you check in; otherwise, you will be charged a $25 fee. There is a two-dog maximum per room and your dog can not be left unattended at any time. Dogs must be leashed when outside of the premises. Pet parents must clean up after their dogs or be charged a $25 pet waste removal fee.
Be sure to bring a crate and a leash if you are planning to leave your pooch in your room.
“Plan Ahead! Don’t buy your carrier at the last minute,” Social Media Manager Ruben Zapeda advised pet parents. “Also be certain that your pet is accustomed to traveling in a car.”
Each room is equipped with quality linens, towels and toiletries, high-speed wireless Internet, premium cable TV/HBO and coffeemakers. Local and long-distance phone calls are free. Accommodations range from standard rooms with queen or king-sized beds to rooms with fireplaces or mini kitchens.
Free doggie waste-disposal bags are available around the property as well as at the front desk. Any dogs that display aggressive behavior or constant barking must be removed from the premises.
“Dogs are not our whole hotel, but they make our hotel whole,” said General Manager John Ruiz.
