3 Dog-Friendly Coffee Shops in Washington, D.C.
Good morning, Washington, D.C.!
If you need a dose of caffeine before you hit the city with your pooch, these paw-pular coffee shops will add a bounce to your step! If you want to see everything from the National Mall to the dozens of parks and trails this city has to offer, you’re going to need it!
1. The Blind Dog Cafe – 944 Florida Ave. NW, (map), 202-290-2865
This pop-up cafe is located in the popular Darnell’s Bar during the day. The cafe welcomes pooches and even bunnies. Be sure to say hi to their sweet pooch Baxter, the cafe’s mascot and namesake.
2. Qualia Coffee – 3917 Georgia Ave. NW (between N. Randolph St. and N. Shepherd St.) (map), 202-248-6423
According to Qualia Coffee’s website, “Under DC health code, only service animals may enter the coffeeshop, but we do have a front porch and backyard with a few seats and water bowls for pooches. There’s also a tin of dog treats around here somewhere. You can get to the backyard by using one of the alleys on Randolph or Shepherd Streets.” The shop offers free Wi-Fi, but shuts it off on the last weekend of every month. Be sure to greet the very handsome Gus, unofficial canine of Qualia Coffee, as well as Spike, the alley cat.
3. Jacob’s Coffee & Cafe – 401 8th St. NE (between N. D St. and N. Maryland Ave.) (map), 202-543-6161
This casual coffee house is so laid back that they don’t even have a website! The cafe offers a pet-friendly outdoor seating area for you and your pooch to relax and get your morning buzz. Yelp reviewer Beth K. mentions, “I’ve been told that they’re cool with people bringing dogs in with them while they order too, though I haven’t done or seen that myself.”
